Sanofi-Aventis U.S., based in Bridgewater NJ, is a subsidiary of European drug maker Sanofi-Aventis Group (NYSE: SNY). It has six key therapeutic areas: internal medicine; cardiovascular disease; thrombosis; central nervous system disorders; cancer; and metabolic conditions.

The U.S. subsidiary operates five research sites in the United States, with 16,000 employees. In terms of strategic direction, SNY is moving from the more traditional closed innovation model to an approach based on open innovation. The company has entered into a number of collaboration agreements with both public and private companies and research institutes. However, there are no partnerships in the current SNY drug development program with Canadian company or institute – and this breakfast is intended to address this gap by introducing Dr. De Sanctis to the Ontario biotech community.
